Founder/President

Karen Reese is the Founder and Director of Can We Play Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth and families through sports, education, and community engagement. A visionary leader and advocate, Karen is committed to creating opportunities that support the development of student-athletes both on and off the field. With a passion for uplifting families—especially sports moms—Karen has built platforms that provide resources, education, and real conversations around youth sports, life skills, and personal growth. She is also the creator and host of the Can We Talk Sports talk show, where she brings together athletes, parents, and industry experts to share insight, inspiration, and solutions. Karen’s work focuses on bridging gaps in access, knowledge, and support, ensuring that every child and family has the tools they need to succeed. Through Can We Play Inc., she continues to lead impactful initiatives that promote confidence, leadership, and community connection.

Lawanda Bailey

Treasurer

LaWanda Bailey serves as Treasurer, bringing a strong commitment to youth development, community empowerment, and organizational excellence. She is the Founder and Executive Director of XceLLL Education Resource Solution Network, where she leads efforts to support youth with learning differences and behavioral challenges. A passionate advocate and certified Parent Educator and Home Visitor, LaWanda provides tutoring, leadership development, and holistic support for children and young adults ages 3–24. Her whole-child approach focuses on building confidence, resilience, and life skills that extend beyond academics into sports and community engagement. LaWanda is dedicated to creating inclusive opportunities that allow every child to thrive, discover their strengths, and fully participate in school, athletics, and life. Her leadership, attention to detail, and heart for service make her a valuable steward of the organization’s financial integrity and mission.

Tammi Curley

Secretary

Tammi Curley serves as the Secretary of the organization, bringing dedication, compassion, and strong organizational skills to her role. A proud mother of three daughters and grandmother of two, Tammi is deeply rooted in family values and understands the importance of nurturing and supporting others. In addition to her leadership within the organization, Tammi is a devoted caregiver to her mother, reflecting her selfless nature and commitment to service. She has a passion for creativity and wellness, enjoying writing, singing, and maintaining an active lifestyle through fitness. Tammi’s heart for people, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence make her an invaluable part of the team and the mission we serve.
